Broadly speaking, that research has focused on classroom tuition, predominantly at secondary level. Increasingly, however, language learning occurs in independent settings, whether at distance, on Institution-Wide Language Programmes (IWLPs), or in virtual environments. Success in independent language learning is achieved by autonomous individuals with a capacity for self-regulation. Yet we still know relatively little about the specific means they use to learn effectively, whether in terms of the affective strategies they employ to sustain motivation, the metacognitive strategies required for planning, monitoring and evaluating their learning, or the specific cognitive strategies applied to difficult learning tasks. These are all discussed and evaluated in Language Learning Strategies in Independent Settings.Second language acquisition (Clevedon, England) ;33.Language and languagesStudy and teachingIndependent studySecond language acquisitionElectronic books.Language and languagesStudy and teaching.Independent study.Second language acquisition.418.0071Hurd Stella1043127Lewis Tim1946-1043128MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910453583203321Language learning strategies in independent settings2467875UNINA01994nas a2200385 i 450099100403343970753620231113103036.0011205c19479999de | ger d0025-58581865-8784b11901615-39ule_instPERLE000013ExLCDU 51Abhandlungen aus dem Mathematischen Seminar der Universität HamburgAbhandlungen aus dem Mathematischen Seminar der Universität Hamburg /Universität Hamburg.
