Many species regularly rely on their ability to home or reach other familiar sites, but how they manage to do this is often uncertain. In many cases the goal is attained in the absence of any sensory contact, by mechanisms of indirect orientation whose complexity and sophistication have for a long time challenged the skill and patience of many researchers. A series of problems of increasing difficulty have to be overcome; researchers have to discover the nature of orienting cues, the sensory windows involved, the role of inherited and acquired information, and, eventually, how the central mechanisms process information and control motory responses. Naturally, this book emphasizes targets achieved rather than areas unexplored and mysteries unsolved. Even so, the reader will quickly realize that our knowledge of phenomena and mechanisms has progressed to different degrees in different animal groups, ranging from the mere description of homing behaviour to a satisfactory insight into some underlying mechanisms. In the last few dacades there have been promising developments in the study of animal homing, since new approaches have been tried out, and new species and groups have been investigated. Despite this, homing phenomena have not recently been the object of exhaustive reviews and there is a tendency for them to be neglected in general treatises on animal behaviour.Chapman & Hall Animal Behaviour SeriesAnimal ecologyEcology Animal Ecologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19015Ecologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L19007Animal ecology.Ecology .Animal Ecology.Ecology.591.7Papi Fedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtBOOK9910480915303321Animal Homing1951573UNINA02840nam 2200709Ia 450 991045243740332120200520144314.00-7391-4444-81-299-15699-1(CKB)2550000001001318(EBL)1126465(OCoLC)828423727(SSID)ssj0001142327(PQKBManifestationID)12383864(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001142327(PQKBWorkID)11097945(PQKB)10059682(SSID)ssj0000834877(PQKBManifestationID)12346764(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000834877(PQKBWorkID)10989724(PQKB)10332737(MiAaPQ)EBC1126465(Au-PeEL)EBL1126465(CaPaEBR)ebr10660117(CaONFJC)MIL446949(EXLCZ)99255000000100131820100405d2010 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrAn American stand[electronic resource] Senator Margaret Chase Smith and the communist menace, 1948-1972 /Eric R. Avoiding any sanitization of the ruthless actions of communists abroad, this study sheds light on why Smith and a significant number of ordinary Americans maintained strident anti-communist views.Anti-communist movementsUnited StatesHistoryWomen legislatorsUnited StatesBiographyUnited StatesPolitics and government1945-1989MainePolitics and government1865-1950MainePolitics and government1951-Electronic books.Anti-communist movementsHistory.Women legislators328.73/092B328.73/092BCrouse Eric Robert1960-1030850MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910452437403321An American stand2447970UNINA
