Far from desiring heterosexual sex and wishing to bond with other men through fraternity, the male protagonists of classic American literature mainly want to be left alone. Greven makes the claim that American men, eschewing both marriage and male friendship, strive to remain emotionally and sexually inviolate. Examining the work of traditional authors - Hawthorne, Poe, Melville, Cooper, Irving, Stowe - Greven discovers highly untraditional and transgressive representations of desire and sexuality. Objects of desire from both women and other men, the inviolate males discussed in this study overturn established gendered and sexual categories, just as this study overturns archetypal assumptions about American manhood and American literature.American literature19th centuryHistory and criticismMasculinity in literatureSocial isolation in literatureSelf-control in literatureChastity in literatureSex role in literatureViolence in literatureDesire in literatureSex in literatureMen in literatureElectronic books.American literatureHistory and criticism.Masculinity in literature.Social isolation in literature.Self-control in literature.Chastity in literature.Sex role in literature.Violence in literature.Desire in literature.Sex in literature.Men in literature.810.9/353Greven David952722MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910450845203321Men beyond desire2153910UNINA01793nam0 22004333i 450 VAN027453920240515024026.715N978303082808020240408d2021 |0itac50 baengCH|||| |||||ˆAn ‰Introduction to Bayesian Inference, Methods and ComputationNick HeardChamSpringer2021xii, 169 p.ill.24 cm62-XXStatistics [MSC 2020]VANC022998MF62F15Bayesian inference [MSC 2020]VANC024528MF62A01Foundations and philosophical topics in statistics [MSC 2020]VANC036753MFBayes factorsKW:KBayes linear regressionKW:KBayesian StatisticsKW:KBayesian latent factor modelsKW:KBayesian nonparametricsKW:KComputational Bayesian inferenceKW:KConjugate prior modelsKW:KGaussian processesKW:KPyStanKW:KStanKW:KCHChamVANL001889HeardNickVANV2269781733300Springer <editore>VANV108073650ITSOL20240614RICAhttps://doi.org/10.1007/978-3-030-82808-0E-book – Accesso al full-text attraverso riconoscimento IP di Ateneo, proxy e/o ShibbolethBIBLIOTECA DEL DIPARTIMENTO DI MATEMATICA E FISICAIT-CE0120VAN08NVAN0274539BIBLIOTECA DEL DIPARTIMENTO DI MATEMATICA E FISICA08CONS e-book 8132 08eMF8132 20240412 Introduction to Bayesian Inference, Methods and Computation4148967UNICAMPANIA
