Albrecht der Bär und Konrad von Wettin sind herausragende Persönlichkeiten nicht nur der brandenburgischen und sächsischen Geschichte. Die Studie vergleicht wesentliche Aspekte des politischen Wirkens dieser beiden Markgrafen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei etwa ihre Heiratspolitik, der Umgang mit ihren Klostervogteien und die vielschichtigen Beziehungen der Markgrafen zu Herrscher und Reich. Durch den vergleichenden Ansatz wird eine Einordnung und Würdigung der Markgrafen möglich, die über bisherige Einzeluntersuchungen hinausgeht.
