As democracy is being contested anew in the beginning of the 21st century, a much more complicated landscape of democracy since 1900 emerges. Transfer was not a one-way-street, and patterns of conflict and transformation affected both American and European political societies. American democracy may not be reduced to a resilient defense of original traditions, while the narrative of German democracy is more than redemption from catastrophe. The essays in this volume contribute to a new history of transatlantic democracy that accounts for its manifold experiences and constant renegotiations, up to the current challenges of American and European populism.Schriften des Historischen Kollegs.Kolloquien.Transatlantic democracy in the 20th centuryDemocracyEurope, WesternDemocracyGermanyDemocracyUnited StatesGermanyPolitics and government20th centuryUnited StatesPolitics and government20th centuryDemocracyDemocracyDemocracy320.973Puhle Hans-Jürgenctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMüller Jan-Wernerctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbPatel Kiran Klausctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbNolte Pauledthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtNolte Paulctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbGassert Philippctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBavaj Riccardoctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbWelskopp Thomasctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbRahden Till vanctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbBerghahn Volkerctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbDepkat Volkerctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910404125603321Transatlantic democracy in the twentieth century2125392UNINA
