Using a most similar case design and a mixed-methods approach, the authors draw attention to the ways in which electoral systems and party regulations interface with voluntary party quotas in Germany and Austria. All quota parties in these countries support the goal of equal participation of women and men in elected office, and quotas are presented as a means to precisely that end. In order to assess parties’ commitment to their declared goals, and the effectiveness of quotas, the book introduces the concept of the post-quota gender gap and defines it as the difference between a party’s adopted quota and the actual share of women in legislative bodies at the national and regional level. Complementing the existing literature on recruitment and socio-cultural legacies, the authors argue that the problem of voluntary party quotas lies at the intersection of party quota design and electoral law. Either parties need to design quotas that actually work within a given electoral system, or we need legislative action geared toward advancing parity not just in candidate selection, but in the composition of legislatures. The book draws on gendered candidate and election data, on the party statutes of federal and state-level party organizations, and on interviews with party officials and party women’s organizations. .SpringerBriefs in Political Science,2191-5466Identity politicsElectionsSociologyComparative governmentPolitics and Genderhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911260Electoral Politicshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911070Gender Studieshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/X35000Comparative Politicshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/911040Identity politics.Elections.Sociology.Comparative government.Politics and Gender.Electoral Politics.Gender Studies.Comparative Politics.305.420943Ahrens Petraauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut882892Chmilewski Katjaauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autLang Sabineauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autSauer Birgitauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/autMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910383843003321Gender Equality in Politics1972340UNINA05268nam 22008175 450 991072628790332120251008152043.09783031286162303128616210.1007/978-3-031-28616-2(OCoLC)1380465254(MiAaPQ)EBC30550665(Au-PeEL)EBL30550665(DE-He213)978-3-031-28616-2(BIP)088672523(PPN)270619429(CKB)26761012700041(EXLCZ)992676101270004120230522d2023 u| 0engurcz#---auuuutxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierRevealing Rape’s Many Voices Differing Roles, Reactions and Reflections /by Jennifer Brown, Yvonne Shell, Terri Cole1st ed. 2023.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Palgrave Macmillan,2023.1 online resource (335 pages)Print version: Brown, Jennifer Revealing Rape's Many Voices Cham : Springer International Publishing AG,c2023 9783031286155 Includes bibliographical references and index.SECTION 1: INTRODUCTION -- Chapter 1: Overview -- Chapter 2: Hearing and listening -- SECTION 2: THE ADVERSARIES -- Chapter 3: The complainant/witness -- Chapter 4: The suspect/accused/defendant -- SECTION 3: THE PROFESSIONALS -- Chapter 5: The investigators -- Chapter 6: The lawyers -- Chapter 7: The judge and jury -- SECTION 4: SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY -- Chapter 8: Practitioners -- Chapter 9: Partners, friends and family -- SECTION 5: THE AFTERMATH -- Chapter 10: The victim/survivor -- Chapter 11: The offender/acquitted -- Chapter 12: Where do we go from here?.“This book gives voice not only to rape survivors but also to the perspectives of the many ‘others’— both inside and outside the criminal justice system. The concept of ‘the rape sphere’ presents an important contribution in providing a framework to unpack the complex, overlapping, and wide-reaching impacts resulting from a rape.” -Debra Langan, Associate Professor of Criminology, Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada “Rape is like a grenade. The shrapnel hits everybody, exploding in the family home, friendship groups, work colleagues, neighbours, even the neighbourhood itself. I feel this book goes a long way to explaining the issues faced and how professionals can help deal with them.” -Martyn Underhill MBE, Retired Detective Chief Inspector, and Police and Crime Commissioner, 2012-21, Dorset, UK By extending the cast list of roles implicated in rape’s hidden sphere of harm, this book attentively listens toexperiential voices of complainant/witnesses, suspect/accused, police, lawyers, judges and jurors, therapists, advocates, partners, parents, family and friends during the criminal justice journey. Highlighting good and bad practices, it proposes a paradigm shift for inculcating policy reform, arguing the case for implementation science as a framework for embedding change. The book will be of interest to those involved in the policy, practice and delivery of criminal justice, the support and voluntary sector as well as giving valuable insights to students of forensic and investigative psychology, criminology, law, social policy, gender studies and also those studying on the new policing apprenticeship degree programmes.
