Moreover, in recent years, new technologies and methods have lead to the emergence of a field that is now commonly known as the Spatial Humanities. Methods from the standard toolset of geographic information systems (e.g., computation of viewsheds and zones of influence, least-cost path analysis, mass-preserving areal weighting and dasymetric mapping, terrain classification according to land coverage or land use, different types of thematic cartography techniques, etc.) have been successfully employed to analyze the geographies of human cultures, both past and present, and to address research questions posed by humanities-based fields. However, many challenges persist in the application of more recent technical developments in the geographical information sciences, which have been showcased in venues such as ACM SIGSPATIAL (e.g., high performance computing methods for analyzing increasingly larger datasets, intelligent techniques based on machine learning for developing and tuning models making use of multiple sources of auxiliary data, the usage of volunteered geographical information to complement traditional data sources, or methods from the geo- spatial semantic web to ease interoperability across datasets and services).ACM international conference proceedings series.Digital humanitiesCongressesGeographic information systemsSocial aspectsCongressesHuman geographyData processingCongressesMachine learningSocial aspectsCongressesDigital humanitiesGeographic information systemsSocial aspectsHuman geographyData processingMachine learningSocial aspects001.302854Murrieta-Flores PatriciaMartins BrunoAssociation for Computing Machinery-Digital Library,NjHacINjHaclBOOK9910375692003321GeoHumanities 20183474519UNINA01332nam 2200433 450 991081001580332120200520144314.01-4438-7897-9(CKB)3710000001411225(MiAaPQ)EBC4884329(Au-PeEL)EBL4884329(CaPaEBR)ebr11402271(OCoLC)991596253(EXLCZ)99371000000141122520170719h20172017 uy 0engurcnu||||||||rdacontentrdamediardacarrierRethinking comparison in archaeology /edited by Ana Vale, Joana Alves-Ferreira and Irene Garcia RoviraNewcastle upon Tyne, England :Cambridge Scholars Publishing,2017.20171 online resource (217 pages)1-4438-7285-7 Includes bibliographical references at the end of each chapters.ArchaeologyMethodologyCongressesArchaeologyMethodology930.1028Vale AnaAlves-Ferreira JoanaRovira Irene GarciaMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910810015803321Rethinking comparison in archaeology3953118UNINA
