"The Power of Personality in Pictures" --Notes --Bibliography --IndexThis engaging, deeply researched study provides the richest and most nuanced picture we have to date of cinema-both movies and movie-going-in the early 1910's. At the same time, it makes clear the profound relationship between early cinema and the construction of a national identity in this important transitional period in the United States. Richard Abel looks closely at sensational melodramas, including westerns (cowboy, cowboy-girl, and Indian pictures), Civil War films (especially girl-spy films), detective films, and animal pictures-all popular genres of the day that have received little critical attention. He simultaneously analyzes film distribution and exhibition practices in order to reconstruct a context for understanding moviegoing at a time when American cities were coming to grips with new groups of immigrants and women working outside the home. Drawing from a wealth of research in archive prints, the trade press, fan magazines, newspaper advertising, reviews, and syndicated columns-the latter of which highlight the importance of the emerging star system-Abel sheds new light on the history of the film industry, on working-class and immigrant culture at the turn of the century, and on the process of imaging a national community.Imagined community of United States cinemaMotion picturesUnited StatesHistoryMotion picturesSocial aspectsUnited StatesNationalismUnited States1910s.american cinema.american history.americanizing film.animal films.anthropologists.cinema studies.civil war films.critical analysis.detective films.early cinema.film distribution.film historians.film industry.film scholars.film studies.immigrant culture.movie audiences.moviegoing.national identity.nonfiction study.popular film genres.sensational melodramas.sociologists.united states.westerns.working class culture.Motion picturesHistory.Motion picturesSocial aspectsNationalism791.430973Abel Richard1941-237554MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910782201003321Americanizing the movies and "movie-mad" audiences, 1910-19141684991UNINA04015nam 22011413a 450 991034685460332120250203235425.09783039212767303921276110.3390/books978-3-03921-276-7(CKB)4920000000095121(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/41945(ScCtBLL)f5f94225-3863-4f07-91f7-8f9908a6b4f4(OCoLC)1126119354(EXLCZ)99492000000009512120250203i20192019 uu engurmn|---annantxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierBenefits of Resveratrol SupplementationMaría P. One of the most widely-studied phenolic compounds is resveratrol. This molecule, which is naturally present in some foods, shows beneficial effects on various physiological and biochemical processes, thus representing a potential tool for the prevention or the treatment of diseases highly prevalent in our society. Several of these beneficial effects have been observed in human beings, but others only in pre-clinical studies so far, and therefore, it is mandatory to continue with the scientific research in this field. Indeed, new knowledge concerning these issues could enable the development of novel functional foods or nutraceuticals, incorporating resveratrol, suitable for preventing or treating diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, dislipemia, insulin resistance and diabetes, liver diseases, etc.polyphenols?-viniferinleptin resistancep53kidneyenergy restrictiongrape powder extractcytokinesphosphorylationobesityenergy metabolismmetabolic pathwaysendothelial functionpolyol pathwayantioxidantcaloric restrictionratadipose tissuemicroparticlespathwaysangiotensin converting enzyme 2resistanceesRAGEinterleukinsmetabolic syndromedissolution ratethermogenesisstreptozotocinbioavailabilitysolubilitymetabolismrenin-angiotensin systemmicrobiotaSirt-1magnesium dihydroxidehypertrophymetabolic diseasesphysiological adaptionred wine extractlensdistributionMTA1sirtuininflammationcardiac functionratscisplatinresveratrolmitochondriabreast cancerischemia-reperfusioncardiovascularmetabolitesgut microbiotaprostate cancerperformancetype 2 diabetescafeteria diethigh-fat high-sucrose dietresistance exerciseagingdiabetesoxidative stressPortillo María P1787318Fernandez-Quintela AlfredoScCtBLLScCtBLLBOOK9910346854603321Benefits of Resveratrol Supplementation4320537UNINA
