Although the occurrence of resistance in microbes is a natural process, the overuse of antibiotics is known to increase the rate of resistance evolution. Under antibiotic treatment, susceptible bacteria inevitably die, while resistant microorganisms proliferate under reduced competition. Therefore, the out-of-control use of antibiotics eliminates drug-susceptible species that would naturally limit the expansion of resistant species. In addition, the ability of many microbial species to grow as a biofilm has further complicated the treatment of infections with conventional antibiotics. A number of corrective measures are currently being explored to reverse or slow antibiotic resistance evolution, Among which one of the most promising solutions is the development of polymer-based antimicrobial compounds. In this Special Issue, different polymer systems able to prevent or treat biofilm formation, including cationic polymers, antibacterial peptide-mimetic polymers, polymers or composites able to load and release bioactive molecules, and antifouling polymers able to repel microbes by physical or chemical mechanisms are reported. Their applications in the design and fabrication of medical devices, in food packaging, and as drug carriers is investigated.?-chymotrypsin2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate3D printingAcinetobacter baumanniiacrylatesactive packagingadditive manufacturingadditivesadhesivesamorphous materialsanti-biofilm surfaceanti-biofilm surfacesantibacterialantibacterial activityantibacterial peptidesantibacterial polymersantibacterial propertiesantibiofilm activityantifoulingantifouling materialsantimicrobial peptideantimicrobial peptidesantimicrobial polymerantimicrobial polymersantimicrobial propertiesantimicrobial resistancebacteria viabilitybactericidal coatingsbiocompatible polymerbiocompatible systemsbiofilmbiofilm analysisbiofilm devicesbiofilm methodsbiofilm on contact lensesbionanocompositescationic polymerscircular dichroismcoatings from nanoparticlescoatings wettabilitycompositescopolymerizationcopper paintcuprous oxide nanoparticlesdrug carrierdrug deliverydrug delivery systemsdynamic light scatteringEscherichia coliESKAPE pathogensfluorescencefood shelf-lifefoodborne pathogenshalictinehemolytic activityimidizationinfrared spectroscopylayered double hydroxideslinear low-density polyethylenelipopeptidesmedical device-related infectionsmicrobial biofilmmicrobicidal coatingsmultidrug-resistantmultifunctional hybrid systemsn/aocular infectionsolive mill wastewaterordered mesoporous silicaperiodontal biofilmsperiodontitispersister cellsphysiological saltplastic materialspolyamide 11polyethylene glycolpolymeric biocidepolymeric filmspolymeric surfacespolymerizable quaternary ammonium saltspolymersproteinasequaternary ammoniumquaternary ammonium saltsquaternizationsegmented polyurethanessol-gel preparationStaphylococcus aureussurface functionalizationthermal stabilityUV-induced polymerizationwater disinfectionwound dressingsFrancolini Iolandaauth1339340Piozzi AntonellaauthBOOK9910674016403321Polymeric Systems as Antimicrobial or Antifouling Agents3060062UNINA02570nas 2200709-- 450 991034510700332120251021044818.0(CKB)110978966552018(CONSER)---48030420-(EXLCZ)9911097896655201820751101a19449999 --- aengur|n||||||||ntxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierThe Ukrainian quarterly[New York, N.Y.][Ukrainian Congress Committee of America]1 online resourcePolitical Extremism and Radicalism: Far-Right and Left Political Groups in the U.S., Europe, and Australia in the Twentieth CenturyOccasional issue published in CD-ROM format.Print version: The Ukrainian quarterly. 0041-6010 (DLC) 48030420 (OCoLC)1767936 A journal of East European and Asian affairs.Political Extremism and Radicalism: Far-Right and Left Political Groups in the U.S., Europe, and Australia in the Twentieth Century.THE UKRAINIAN QUARTERLY A JOURNAL OF UKRAINIAN AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRSUKR QUKRAINIAN QUARTERLYUkr. q.Ukrainian AmericansPeriodicalsAméricains d'origine ukrainiennePériodiquesUkrainian Americansfast(OCoLC)fst01160424Ukrainian AmericansPeriodicalsnliPOLITICAL CONDITIONSunbistHISTORYunbistCULTUREunbistCOUNTRY STUDIESunbistUKRAINEunbistUkraineHistoryPeriodicalsUkraineHistoirePériodiquesUkrainefasthttps://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJkMMfGYRhk8WcWRp3xJjCUkraineHistoryPeriodicalsnliHistory.fastPeriodicals.fastPeriodicals.lcgftUkrainian AmericansAméricains d'origine ukrainienneUkrainian Americans.Ukrainian AmericansPOLITICAL CONDITIONS.HISTORY.CULTURE.COUNTRY STUDIES.UKRAINE.947.7Ukrainian Congress Committee of America.MIGCLUtOrBLWJOURNAL9910345107003321exl_impl conversionUkrainian Quarterly1324578UNINA
