Unique in its balanced coverage of developments in both Czech and Slovak lands, including the Hungarian minority of southern Slovakia, this book looks beyond Prague and Bratislava to collective action in small towns, provincial factories, and collective farms.Through his broad and deep analysis of workers' declarations, student bulletins, newspapers, film footage, and the proceedings of local administrative bodies, Krapfl contends that Czechoslovaks rejected Communism not because it was socialist, but because it was arbitrarily bureaucratic and inhumane. The restoration of a basic "humanness"-in politics and in daily relations among citizens-was the central goal of the revolution. In the strikes and demonstrations that began in the last weeks of 1989, Krapfl argues, citizens forged new symbols and a new symbolic system to reflect the humane, democratic, and nonviolent community they sought to create. Tracing the course of the revolution from early, idealistic euphoria through turns to radicalism and ultimately subversive reaction, Revolution with a Human Face finds in Czechoslovakia's experiences lessons of both inspiration and caution for people in other countries striving to democratize their governments.Political cultureCzechoslovakiaCzechoslovakiaPolitics and government1989-1992CzechoslovakiaHistoryVelvet Revolution, 1989Electronic books.Political culture943.704/3Krapfl James1971-1052313MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910464319503321Revolution with a human face2483476UNINA01435nam a2200313 i 450099100181734970753620020507152131.0991004s1985 it ||| | ita b11568343-39ule_instLE02725676ExLDip.to Studi Giuridiciita333.7830945Convegno sul tema Parchi e aree protette in Italia <1983 ; Roma>528651Convegno sul tema Parchi e aree protette in Italia :Roma, 3-5 novembre 1983 /Accademia nazionale dei LinceiRoma :Accademia nazionale dei Lincei,1985412 p. ;28 cm.Atti dei convegni lincei ;66Ambiente naturaleProtezioneItaliaCongressiAtti convegni LinceiParchi naturaliItaliaCongressiAccademia Nazionale dei Linceiauthorhttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut4172Parchi e aree protette in Italia.b1156834301-03-1702-07-02991001817349707536LE001 AN XXI 34612001000045396le001pE0.00-l- 00000.i1410839218-07-05LE027 ARCHI LINCEI ATTI 431LE027-4816le027-E0.00-l- 00000.i1177230x02-07-02Convegno sul tema Parchi e aree protette in Italia1451930UNISALENTOle001le02701-01-99ma -itait 0201202nam0-2200325 --450 991027434470332120230926111228.0978-88-548-4665-420180629d2012----kmuy0itay5050 baitaengIT 001yyAntropologia e scienze sociali a Napoli in età modernaa cura di Roberto Mazzolacon la collaborazione di Maurizio Cambi ...
