Wie diese schwülstigen Phrasen aus dem Programm der NS-Frauenschaft in die Praxis des nationalsozialistischen Alltags umgesetzt wurden und was das für die Lebenssituation der Frauen bedeutete, wird von Dorothee Klinksiek erstmals umfassend analysiert. Aufgrund intensiver Quellenstudien ist es der Autorin gelungen, die Lage der Frauen anschaulich zu schildern. Dabei wird auch das alte Vorurteil, die Frauen hätten wegen ihres mangelnden politischen Verständnisses Hitler an die Macht gebracht, eindeutig widerlegt. Obwohl die Autorin keineswegs vom feministischen Standpunkt aus argumentiert, wird doch auf Schritt und Tritt deutlich, dass die Analyse von einer engagierten Frau verfasst wurde, die die Aufarbeitung der "Frauengeschichte" als Teil des eigenen Selbstverständnisses sieht. Das Buch wendet sich nicht nur an den historisch interessierten Leser, sondern auch an alle, die sich mit den zentralen Fragen der Gegenwart auseinandersetzen.
