The taboo was enforced by a seminal article, "The Intentional Fallacy," and it deepened during the era of poststructuralist theory. Even now, when the vocabulary of "critique" that has dominated the literary field is under sweeping revision, the matter of authorial intention has yet to be reconsidered. This work explains how "The Intentional Fallacy" confused different kinds of authorial intentions and how literary critics can benefit from a more up-to-date understanding of intentionality in language. The result is a challenging inventory of the resources of literary theory, including implied readers, poetic speakers, omniscient narrators, interpretive communities, linguistic indeterminacy, unconscious meaning, literary value, and the nature of literature itself.LiteraturePhilosophyFictionLiterary TheoryFiction LiteratureLiteraturePhilosophy.Fiction.Literary Theory.Fiction Literature.801Farrell Johnauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut887204BOOK9910255067303321The Varieties of Authorial Intention1982007UNINA02403nam 22004813 450 991101055750332120250619080324.01-3995-4279-6(MiAaPQ)EBC31773581(Au-PeEL)EBL31773581(CKB)39323483000041(OCoLC)1522474152(Exl-AI)31773581(EXLCZ)993932348300004120250619d2025 uy 0engurcnu||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierThe Production and Consumption of Non-Muslim Islams1st ed.Edinburgh :Edinburgh University Press,2025.©2025.1 online resource (305 pages)Advances in the Study of Islam Series1-3995-4277-X Notes on Contributors -- Introducing Non-Muslim Islam to Islamic Studies -- 1 The Consequences of Non-Religious Courts Defining Religion: Twenty Years of Case Law on Sharia from the European Court of Human Rights -- 2 The Making of Non-Muslim State Islam in France -- 3 What Did Jan Hjärpe Choose from the Islamic Basket?
