Agitated equally by politics and the possibilities of artistic experimentation, Barry MacSweeney was ridiculed in the press, his literary reputation only recovering towards the end of his life which was cut short by alcoholism. With close readings of MacSweeney alongside his contemporaries, precursors, and influences, including J.H. Prynne, Shelley, Jack Spicer, and Sylvia Plath, Luke Roberts offers a fresh introduction to the field of modern poetry. Richly detailed with archival and bibliographic research, this book recovers the social and political context of MacSweeney's exciting, challenging, and controversial impact on modern and contemporary poetry.Modern and Contemporary Poetry and Poetics,2634-6060European literaturePoetryLiterature, Modern20th centuryEuropean LiteraturePoetry and PoeticsTwentieth-Century LiteratureEuropean literature.Poetry.Literature, ModernEuropean Literature.Poetry and Poetics.Twentieth-Century Literature.809.41Roberts Lukeauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut926829BOOK9910255064803321Barry MacSweeney and the Politics of Post-War British Poetry2081505UNINA04021nam 2200757Ia 450 991096747860332120241107101040.01-282-75441-697866127544180-520-94699-510.1525/9780520946996(CKB)2670000000048456(EBL)579392(OCoLC)813230078(SSID)ssj0000412387(PQKBManifestationID)11260315(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000412387(PQKBWorkID)10367412(PQKB)11013698(DE-B1597)521127(OCoLC)822968894(DE-B1597)9780520946996(Au-PeEL)EBL579392(CaPaEBR)ebr10412740(CaONFJC)MIL275441(ODN)ODN0000457187(Perlego)550759(MiAaPQ)EBC579392(EXLCZ)99267000000004845620091118d2010 ub 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrAutobiography of Mark TwainVolume 1 /editor: Harriet Elinor Smith ; associate editors: Benjamin Griffin, Victor Fischer, Michael B. Mark Twain wrote in a 1904 letter to a friend. "And I will give it away-to you. You will never know how much enjoyment you have lost until you get to dictating your autobiography." Thus, after dozens of false starts and hundreds of pages, Twain embarked on his "Final (and Right) Plan" for telling the story of his life. His innovative notion-to "talk only about the thing which interests you for the moment"-meant that his thoughts could range freely. The strict instruction that many of these texts remain unpublished for 100 years meant that when they came out, he would be "dead, and unaware, and indifferent," and that he was therefore free to speak his "whole frank mind." The year 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of Twain's death. In celebration of this important milestone and in honor of the cherished tradition of publishing Mark Twain's works, UC Press is proud to offer for the first time Mark Twain's uncensored autobiography in its entirety and exactly as he left it. This major literary event brings to readers, admirers, and scholars the first of three volumes and presents Mark Twain's authentic and unsuppressed voice, brimming with humor, ideas, and opinions, and speaking clearly from the grave as he intended. The main objective is to offer a timely assessment of different facets such as electoral systems, electoral campaigns, the public perception of the elections, the role of European parties, determinants of voting behavior, and the consequences of the electoral results for European governance. In addition to analyses from European studies, perspectives from other (sub)disciplines and research areas, such as election, party, communication and governance research, are featured in the volume. The authors, which consist of accomplished academics and civil society actors, present a highly diverse range of analyses, individually very rich and based on solid original research. Taken together, their contributions offer the reader a comprehensive understanding of the issues, parties, and mechanisms behind the European elections of 2024.
