This book presents the transcription, translation, and analysis of Chinese (753 AD) and Japanese inscriptions (end of the 8th century AD) found on two stones now in the possession of the Yakushiji temple in Nara. All these inscriptions praise the footprints of Buddha, and more exactly their carvings in the stone. The language of the Japanese inscription, which consists of twenty-one poems, reflects the contemporary dialect of Nara. Its writing system shows a quite unique trait, being practically monophonic. The book is richly illustrated by photos of the temple and of the inscriptions.Languages of Asia series ;Volume 25.Buddhist poetry, JapaneseTranslations into EnglishBuddhist poetry, Japanese895.61Vovin Alexander663521MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910795365503321The footprints of the Buddha3807850UNINA03508nam 22008295 450 991025495180332120240307122520.09781137508553113750855810.1057/9781137508553(CKB)3710000000651974(SSID)ssj0001669123(PQKBManifestationID)16460045(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001669123(PQKBWorkID)14789695(PQKB)10112822(DE-He213)978-1-137-50855-3(MiAaPQ)EBC4720313(PPN)228321816(Perlego)3508152(EXLCZ)99371000000065197420160302d2016 u| 0engurnn|008mamaatxtccrManaging and Developing Communities, Festivals and Events /by Alan Clarke ; edited by Allan Jepson1st ed. 2016.London :Palgrave Macmillan UK :Imprint: Palgrave Macmillan,2016.1 online resource (XIX, 241 p.)
