An indispensable companion to the writer’s own letters, it restores the quality of exchange, interaction, and debate that belongs to a major correspondence. It also leads to a fuller, more rounded picture of Conrad in his personal and professional dealings: both of the mutualities and rituals that underpinned his close friendships and of the terms underlying his mutual disagreements with others. Familiar names are here – Arnold Bennett, John Galsworthy, Edward Garnett, Ford Madox Ford, Bertrand Russell, and H. G. Wells – although in largely unfamiliar form, through unpublished or inaccessible materials. Another notable feature of the volume is the newly recovered correspondence relating to the implementation, by Henry Newbolt and William Rothenstein, of the Royal Bounty Fund grant awarded during one of Conrad’s most severe financial crises (1904–06). An essential resource for the scholar, this vivid collection can also be read with pleasure by the general reader for the light it throws on Conrad the man and writer and the rich context in which he moved.Conrad studies ;3.Novelists, English20th centuryCorrespondenceNovelists, English823.912Knowles Owen1539555MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910782874803321"My dear friend"3790502UNINA03482nam 22005775 450 991015330380332120230810190518.09783319458953331945895710.1007/978-3-319-45895-3(CKB)3710000000961027(DE-He213)978-3-319-45895-3(MiAaPQ)EBC4746990(PPN)259473839(Perlego)3497348(EXLCZ)99371000000096102720161122d2017 u| 0engurnn|008mamaatxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierManaging Testimony and Administrating Victims Colombia's Transitional Scenario under the Justice and Peace Act /by Juan Pablo Aranguren Romero1st ed. 2017.Cham :Springer International Publishing :Imprint: Palgrave Macmillan,2017.1 online resource (XV, 130 p.) Conclusion. This book analyzes the implementation of Law 975 in Colombia, known as the Justice and Peace Law, and proposes a critical view of the transitional scenario in Colombia from 2005 onwards. The author analyzes three aspects of the law: 1) The process of negotiation with paramilitary groups; 2) The constitution of the Group Memoria Histórica (Historic Memory) in Colombia and 3) The process of a 2007 law that was finally not passed. The book contains interviews with key actors in the justice and peace process in Colombia. The author analyses the contradictions, tensions, ambiguities and paradoxes that define the practices of such actors. This book highlights that a critical view of this kind of transitional scenario is indispensable to determine steps towards a just and peaceful society. Juan Pablo Aranguren Romero is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of the Andes, Colombia. He holds an M.A. in Social Anthropology and a Ph.D. in Social Sciences. His research focuses on the intersections of body, suffering, and political violence. Aranguren is author of Cuerpos al límite: tortura, subjetividad y memoria en Colombia(2016) and Las inscripciones de la guerra en el cuerpo de los jóvenes combatientes (2011). .Memory Politics and Transitional Justice,2731-3859PeaceAmericaPolitics and governmentHumanitarian lawPeace and Conflict StudiesAmerican PoliticsInternational Humanitarian Law, Law of Armed ConflictPeace.AmericaPolitics and government.Humanitarian law.Peace and Conflict Studies.American Politics.International Humanitarian Law, Law of Armed Conflict.327.16Aranguren Romero Juan Pabloauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut970363BOOK9910153303803321Managing Testimony and Administrating Victims2205569UNINA04225nam 22006975 450 991025483560332120251225212351.03-319-61813-X10.1007/978-3-319-61813-5(CKB)3710000001631403(DE-He213)978-3-319-61813-5(MiAaPQ)EBC6284331(MiAaPQ)EBC5596467(Au-PeEL)EBL5596467(OCoLC)1002064584(PPN)203851323(EXLCZ)99371000000163140320170818d2017 u| 0engurnn#008mamaatxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierSmart Grid Inspired Future Technologies Second EAI International Conference, SmartGIFT 2017, London, UK, March 27–28, 2017, Proceedings /edited by Eng Tseng Lau, Michael K.K. The revised full papers are presented in four tracks: Track 1 - Communications, Networks and Architectures; Track 2 - Smart Control and Operation; Track 3 - Grid and Components; and Track 4 - Data Management and Grid Analytics. Aside from the technical paper presentations, the book also contains five invited talks and two technical workshops. The two workshops organized were: the Improving the Robustness of Urban Electricity Network (IRENE) and Wireless Communications and Networking Technologies for Connected Smart Grids (WCSG). The IRENE workshop aimed to address the new dimension of threats in the critical infrastructures through demonstration of IRENE methodologies and approaches. The WCSG workshop aimed to gain insights into key challenges, understanding and design criteria of employing wireless technologies to develop and implement future smart grids related services and applications.Lecture Notes of the Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering,1867-822X ;203Computer networksComputers, Special purposeApplication softwareComputer Communication NetworksSpecial Purpose and Application-Based SystemsComputer and Information Systems ApplicationsComputer networks.Computers, Special purpose.Application software.Computer Communication Networks.Special Purpose and Application-Based Systems.Computer and Information Systems Applications.004.36Lau Eng Tsengedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtChai Michael K.Kedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtChen Yueedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtJung Oliveredthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtLeung Victor C.Medthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtYang Kunedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtBessler Sandfordedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtLoo Jonathanedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtNakayama Tomonoriedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910254835603321Smart Grid Inspired Future Technologies2517497UNINA
