That decision left out lesser known ones whose history is nevertheless interesting, but at last author John Barentine is giving them their due. This book is a companion to "The Alternate Constellations", highlighting the more obscure configurations.  The 16 constellations found in this volume fall into one or more of three broad categories: asterims, such as the Big Dipper in Ursa Major; single-sourced constellations introduced on surviving charts by a cartographer perhaps currying the favor of sponsors; and re-brands, new figures meant to displace existing constellations, often for an ideological reason. All of them reveal something unique about the development of humanity's map of the sky. .Popular Astronomy,2626-8760AstronomyObservations, AstronomicalAstronomyObservationsGeographical information systemsHistoryPopular Science in Astronomyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/Q11009Astronomy, Observations and Techniqueshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/P22014Geographical Information Systems/Cartographyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/J13000History of Sciencehttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/731000Astronomy.Observations, Astronomical.AstronomyObservations.Geographical information systems.History.Popular Science in Astronomy.Astronomy, Observations and Techniques.Geographical Information Systems/Cartography.History of Science.500Barentine John Cauthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/aut814127BOOK9910254640803321Uncharted Constellations2527097UNINA02248nam 2200565Ia 450 991082459730332120240417003235.00-309-18074-01-280-44739-797866104473980-309-65784-9(CKB)1000000000245181(EBL)3378080(SSID)ssj0000183923(PQKBManifestationID)11156847(PQKBTitleCode)TC0000183923(PQKBWorkID)10195624(PQKB)11656784(MiAaPQ)EBC3378080(Au-PeEL)EBL3378080(CaPaEBR)ebr10120669(CaONFJC)MIL44739(OCoLC)923275315(EXLCZ)99100000000024518120060407d2006 uy 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrIs that real? identification and assessment of the counterfeiting threat for U.S. banknotes /Committee on Technologies to Deter Currency Counterfeiting, Board on Manufacturing and Engineering Design, Division on Engineering and Physical Sciences1st ed.Washington, D.C.
