In foregrounding the voices of traders, this study sheds fresh light on multiethnic networks of social actors navigating multiple social, political, and economic systems – supporting and opposing various aspects of nationalist ideologies. Personal accounts humanize features of these “faceless” socially mediating groups. Merchants’ generation-specific perspectives on the economy, society, and state, both in times of war and peace, are analyzed against the backdrop of Balkan, Ottoman, and European history. The study captures a dialogue between primary and secondary sources and the major debates regarding nationalism, modernity, and the Ottoman legacy.Balkan Studies Library6.Balkan PeninsulaEconomic conditionsBalkan PeninsulaSocial conditionsBalkan PeninsulaPolitics and government330.9496/038Davidova Evguenia1724734MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910818780203321Balkan transitions to modernity and nation-states4127048UNINA05074nam 22007815 450 991025388260332120200630071640.03-319-24244-X10.1007/978-3-319-24244-6(CKB)3880000000021655(EBL)4189328(SSID)ssj0001596905(PQKBManifestationID)16297208(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001596905(PQKBWorkID)14886669(PQKB)11545664(DE-He213)978-3-319-24244-6(MiAaPQ)EBC4189328(PPN)190884142(EXLCZ)99388000000002165520151210d2016 u| 0engur|n|---|||||txtccrShort Views on Insect Genomics and Proteomics Insect Proteomics, Vol.2 /edited by Chandrasekar Raman, Marian R. Included are comprehensive reviews of the tick salivary gland proteome, the lepidopteran larval peritrophic matrix, and circadian changes in the malaria mosquito proteome, the biochemistry of insect cold adaptation, and the evolutionary loss of selenocysteine from insect lineages. Surveyed are antimicrobial peptides for medical therapeutics, advanced insect systems for expressing biologically active proteins, properties and uses for spider silks, and novel nano-insecticides from bio-active plant extracts. The editors have assembled top-quality scientists from diverse fields of insect genomics, proteomics and biotechnology to produce a major new work. The chapters of this series (Volumes 1 & 2) present many experts’ contributions, providing a concise overview of recent advances by highlighting their current research. The chapters are accessible to wide audience, helping students, postdocs, and researchers to broaden their knowledge and gain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in each field. Emphasis is on innovative effective and ecologically sound approaches based on the knowledge of insect science to improve public health and agriculture.Entomology in Focus,2405-853X ;4EntomologyProteomicsAnimal physiologyEvolutionary biologyBiotechnologyEntomologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L25090Proteomicshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L1403XAnimal Physiologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L33030Evolutionary Biologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L21001Biotechnologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/C12002Entomology.Proteomics.Animal physiology.Evolutionary biology.Biotechnology.Entomology.Proteomics.Animal Physiology.Evolutionary Biology.Biotechnology.595.7015Raman Chandrasekaredthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtGoldsmith Marian Redthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtAgunbiade Tolulope Aedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910253882603321Short Views on Insect Genomics and Proteomics2528869UNINA
