It began its tenure with little government direction - its initial approach was cautious and reactionary. However, by the turn of the century this Board, driven by some forceful individuals, was squarely focused on a legislative agenda that sought policies to control, segregate and expel Aboriginal people. Over time it acquired extraordinary powers to control Aboriginal movement, remove children from their communities and send them into domestic service, collect wages and hold them in trust, withhold rations, expel individuals from stations and reserves, authorise medical inspections, and prevent any Aboriginal person from leaving the state. Power and Dysfunction explores this Board and uncovers who were the major drivers of these policies, who were its most influential people, and how this body came to wield so much power. Paradoxically, despite its considerable influence, through its bravado, structural dysfunction, flawed policies and general indifference, it failed to manage core aspects of Aboriginal policy. In the 1930s, when the Board was finally challenged by Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal groups seeking its abolition, it had become moribund, paranoid and secretive as it railed against all detractors. When it was finally disbanded in 1940, its 57-year legacy had touched every Aboriginal community in New South Wales with lasting consequences that still resonate today.Aboriginal history monograph seriesPower & dysfunction :the New South Wales board for the protection of Aborigines 1883-1940Aboriginal Australians, Treatment ofAustraliaNew South WalesHistoryAboriginal AustraliansGovernment policyAustraliaNew South WalesHistoryNew South WalesfastHistory.fastAboriginal HistoryNSW board for the Protection of AboriginesAustralian historyIndigenous studiespolicyAboriginal Australians, Treatment ofHistory.Aboriginal AustraliansGovernment policyHistory.323.1199159Egan Richard(Historian),1208799MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910508501503321Power and dysfunction2788998UNINA02916oam 2200709zu 450 991022015570332120210807000932.00-8330-8486-0(CKB)2560000000315336(SSID)ssj0001406973(PQKBManifestationID)12610796(PQKBTitleCode)TC0001406973(PQKBWorkID)11409036(PQKB)11441623(oapen)doab115279(EXLCZ)99256000000031533620160829d2014 uy engurmn|---annantxtccrThe development and application of the RAND program classification toolRAND Corporation2014[Place of publication not identified]RAND National Defense Research Institute20141 online resourceRAND toolkit The development and application of the RAND program classification toolBibliographic Level Mode of Issuance: Monograph0-8330-5942-4 The RAND Program Classification Tool is an instrument containing questions and response options across eight key domains that allows for the consistent description of programs in the same content area. Such data can help program portfolio managers compare programs, avoid duplication, and target technical assistance. Developed for psychological health and traumatic brain injury programs, the tool has broader applicability to other content areas.Medical careUnited StatesEvaluationMental health servicesUnited StatesEvaluationBrainWounds and injuriesTreatmentEvaluationUnited StatesHealth services administrationMental Health ServicesMilitary PersonnelpsychologyEvaluation Studies as TopicProgram EvaluationmethodsUnited StatesMedical careEvaluation.Mental health servicesEvaluation.BrainWounds and injuriesTreatmentEvaluationHealth services administration.Mental Health Services.Military Personnelpsychology.Evaluation Studies as Topic.Program Evaluationmethods.Acosta Joie D1236262Weinick Robin MGonzalez GabriellaGonzalez GabriellaGillen Emily MeredithGillen Emily MeredithFarmer Carrie MGarnett JeffreyRand CorporationNational Defense Research Institute (U.S.)PQKBBOOK9910220155703321The development and application of the RAND program classification tool2885240UNINA
