Conclusion. .This book explores the relationship between socialist psychiatry and political ideology during the Cold War. In the context of Yugoslavia's traumatic split from the Soviet Union in 1948, the authorities embarked on a period of theorising and constructing a different form of socialist society, and clinicians and researchers from the 'psy' disciplines saw their role as central to raising a new, revolutionary generation of Yugoslav citizens. This study argues that socialist psychiatry and psychoanalysis in Yugoslavia played an exceptionally important political role and contributed to some of the core discussions of democratic socialism, workers' self-management and Marxism. It argues that the Yugoslav brand of East-West psychoanalysis and psychotherapy bred a truly unique intellectual framework in order to think through a set of political and ideological dilemmas regarding the relationship between individuals and social structures. The book therefore offers a thorough reinterpretation ofthe notion of 'communist psychiatry' as a tool used solely for political oppression and emphasises instead the original political interventions of East European psychiatry and psychoanalysis.Mental Health in Historical Perspective,2634-6044RussiaHistoryEurope, EasternHistorySoviet UnionHistoryMedicineHistoryWorld historySocial historyPsychiatryRussian, Soviet, and East European HistoryHistory of MedicineWorld History, Global and Transnational HistorySocial HistoryPsychiatryRussiaHistory.Europe, EasternHistory.Soviet UnionHistory.MedicineHistory.World history.Social history.Psychiatry.Russian, Soviet, and East European History.History of Medicine.World History, Global and Transnational History.Social History.Psychiatry.909.825949.7023Antić Ana1076359MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910520063303321Non-Aligned Psychiatry in the Cold War2586720UNINA02746oas 2201129 a 450 991015453070332120251015213014.01532-4206(DE-599)ZDB2076949-0(OCoLC)50516999(CONSER) 2006268257(CKB)954925541192(EXLCZ)9995492554119220020831a19849999 sy aengur|||||||||||txtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierEndocrine research[New York, NY] :Marcel Dekker[Philadelphia, PA] :Taylor & Francis1 online resourceRefereed/Peer-reviewed0743-5800 Endocr. res.Endocrinology, ExperimentalPeriodicalsEndocrinologyPeriodicalsEndocrinologyResearchEndocrinologyebpsEndocrinologyfast(OCoLC)fst00909749Endocrinology, Experimentalfast(OCoLC)fst00909762Endocrinologie expérimentalePériodiquesEndocrinologiePériodiquesEndocrinologieRechercheresearch (function)aatPeriodical.Periodicals.fastPeriodicals.lcgftEndocrinology, ExperimentalEndocrinologyEndocrinology.Research.Endocrinology.Endocrinology.Endocrinology, Experimental.Endocrinologie expérimentaleEndocrinologieEndocrinologie.Recherche.research (function)573.4F#AF#AOCLCQMXCGUAUKMGBOCLCQDLCOCLCFOCLCOOCLCQOCLCOOCLCQTXASFBHEBISWT2UEJOCLCQOCLCONLEOCLCQOCLCOAU@OCLCOWYUAUDU3WOCLCQOCLCOOCLCAOCLCQUKBTHUBYOCLCOOCLCAOCLCQAAECEFJOURNAL9910154530703321Endocrine research2182975UNINA
