The Role of the Teacher -- Bibliography -- IndexThe teaching of numbers in the primary grades is seen in this book as the foundation of the beginnings of mathematical understanding. Mathematics is taken to be a language, and the aim of its teaching is to make the pupil, so to speak, bilingual, or so to increase his understanding that he is able to translate a concrete numerical problem into the symbolic language of calculation. For a child taught along these lines, how much easier, for example, would be the transition from arithmetic to algebra!Miss Churchill is fully conversant with the works of Piaget, Cuisenaire, Cassirer and other leading thinkers in educational philosophy, psychology, and linguistics. She has synthesized their concepts with her own experience and research at Leeds University, and, though written within the contexts of British education, her book should also have a marked influence on the teaching of young children in North America.ArithmeticStudy and teaching (Elementary)Number conceptArithmeticStudy and teaching (Elementary)Number concept.372.7Churchill Eileen957039DE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910148693203321Counting and Measuring2167731UNINA01362nam a22002651i 450099100237279970753620030607074825.0030925s1971 aq |||||||||||||||||spa b1227964x-39ule_instARCHE-032721ExLBiblioteca InterfacoltàitaA.t.i. Race, Class, and Activism --Part II. The Third World Left --Notes --Selected Bibliography --IndexLaura Pulido traces the roots of third world radicalism in Southern California during the 1960's and 1970's in this accessible, wonderfully illustrated comparative study. Focusing on the Black Panther Party, El Centro de Acción Social y Autonomo (CASA), and East Wind, a Japanese American collective, she explores how these African American, Chicana/o, and Japanese American groups sought to realize their ideas about race and class, gender relations, and multiracial alliances. Based on thorough research as well as extensive interviews, Black, Brown, Yellow, and Left explores the differences and similarities between these organizations, the strengths and weaknesses of the third world left as a whole, and the ways that differential racialization led to distinct forms of radical politics. Pulido provides a masterly, nuanced analysis of complex political events, organizations, and experiences. She gives special prominence to multiracial activism and includes an engaging account of where the activists are today, together with a consideration of the implications for contemporary social justice organizing.American crossroads ;19.Radical activism in Los AngelesRadicalismCaliforniaLos AngelesHistory20th centuryRight and left (Political science)African AmericansCaliforniaLos AngelesPolitics and government20th centuryMexican AmericansCaliforniaLos AngelesPolitics and government20th centuryJapanese AmericansCaliforniaLos AngelesPolitics and government20th century1960s.1970s.african americans.black americans.black panther party.casa.chicanos.class differences.comparative study.east wind.gender issues.japanese americans.latinos.leftist politics.los angeles.multiracial activism.multiracial alliances.nonfiction.personal interviews.political activists.political organizations.race issues.racialization.radical activism.radical politics.radicalism.social justice.southern california.third world left.third world radicalism.RadicalismHistoryRight and left (Political science)African AmericansPolitics and governmentMexican AmericansPolitics and governmentJapanese AmericansPolitics and government305.8/009794/909047Pulido Laura276301MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQAzTeSBOOK9910783313203321Black, brown, yellow, and left1771794UNINA
