Dans une première partie philosophique et théorique, l’auteur donne un panorama historico-culturel du concept de courage civil et développe des paramètres propres à sa définition ; cette définition est adaptée dans la deuxième partie aux approches littéraires. La dernière partie est didactique, elle aborde les textes littéraires sous l’angle de la réception et de l’enseignement : il s’agit de remettre en question, dans une perspective éthique, les situations et les comportements décrits dans les textes, pour les intégrer dans l’enseignement.
