Europeans often identify advanced civilizations with secularity. But religion is very much alive in other fast developing countries of the world. In Europe, nevertheless, the organized churches very much wanted to stress the Christian character of European identity, and this engendered a lively protest focusing on the perceived threat to the secular European tradition. Also, Europe is facing its greatest cultural challenge in the demand of Turkey to be admitted as a member, and in the demand of many Muslims in Europe, often citizens of the countries in which they live, to be recognized in their difference and at the same time integrated in the European national and supranational institutions. RELIGION / Religion, Politics & StatebisacshChristianity, European Union, Identity, Integration, Islam, Multiculturalism, Muslims, Religion.RELIGION / Religion, Politics & State.Berger Peter L.1929-2017.,ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbCasanova Joséctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbGöle Nilüfer1953-,ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbHervieu-Léger Danièle1947-,ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMartin David1929-2019,ctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbMichalski Krzysztof1948-2013,edthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtModood Tariqctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbParekh Bhikhuctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbRoy Olivierctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbTaylor Charlesctbhttps://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/ctbDE-B1597DE-B1597BOOK9910131778103321Religion in the New Europe3090103UNINA
