These studies, which are based mainly on on-the-spot surveys, examine the present situation of small publishers and provide a “demographic” record of the birth and demise of publishing houses from 1988 to 2005. The studies describe the conditions under which these publishers operate, their individual editorial policies, their difficulties in penetrating the market, and set the prospects and hopes of these small publishing concerns within the general context of the trade.BusinessCultural studieseconomics of culture and Communicationcultural businessespublishingéconomie de la culture et de la communicationéditionentreprises culturellesmaison d'éditionmarchéchoix éditoriauxcultural businesseseconomics of culture and CommunicationpublishingBusinessCultural studieseconomics of culture and Communicationcultural businessespublishingéconomie de la culture et de la communicationéditionentreprises culturellesmaison d'éditionmarchéchoix éditoriauxLegendre Bertrand1302892Chantepie Philippe1281727FR-FrMaCLEBOOK9910131546403321Regards sur les petits éditeurs3028427UNINA05926nam 22006133 450 991055732390332120250506080452.0(CKB)5400000000042640(oapen)https://directory.doabooks.org/handle/20.500.12854/76482(MiAaPQ)EBC31982622(Au-PeEL)EBL31982622(oapen)doab76482(EXLCZ)99540000000004264020250506d2021 uy 0engurmn|---annantxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierTransitioning to Decent Work and Economic Growth1st ed.Basel, SwitzerlandMDPI - Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute2021Basel :MDPI AG,2021.©2021.1 electronic resource (254 p.)Transitioning to Sustainability Series3-03897-778-0 3-03897-779-9 Intro -- Series: Volume 8 -- Contents -- About the Editors -- Contributors -- Abstracts -- Preface to Transitioning to DecentWork and Economic Growth -- Economic Development and Cultural Change: The Role of Multinational Enterprises in Mexico's Emerging Dual Economy (1970s to 2000sDevelopment and Cultural Change: The Role of Multinational Enterprises in Mexico's Emerging Dual Economy (1970s -- Challenges for the Host Society-Human Trafficking, Slavery and Abuse in the Work Context -- "Business as Part of the Solution": SDG 8 Challenges Popular Views in the Global Sustainability Discourse -- Memories of a Practitioner: Ciba-Geigy Crop Protection Activities in Indonesia in the 1980s, an Example of Local Embeddedness -- Multilevel Sustainability Tensions of MNEs in Developing Countries -- Agriculture in the Face of Climate Change: Sustained and Inclusive Economic Growth as a Prerequisite for Sustainable Development -- Employment Gender Gap in the Renewable Energy Sector -- Introduction -- Wyon AG: "Me muess d'Lüt neh wie si sy-Anderi gits e keini" -- Ethical Grounds -- Dignity -- Trust -- Fair Income -- Cooperative Principles and Empowerment -- Externalization of Ethical Values -- The Environment -- Products and Collaborations -- Switzerland and the Small and Medium Enterprises -- Switzerland as a Hub for Technology and Innovation -- The Agenda 2030 in Switzerland -- Swiss SMEs: A Different Approach to Business and Development -- Discussion -- The Difficult Relationship between Decent Work and Economic Growth -- Critique on SDG 8 -- Lessons for a New Concept of Decent Work -- Conclusions -- References -- Blank Page.According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the private sector plays a key role in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). After all, sustainable and inclusive economic growth is essential to enable more people to participate in global prosperity. Encouraging entrepreneurship and job creation are key to SDG 8, as are effective measures to eradicate forced labor, slavery, and human trafficking. Since more than 90 percent of jobs are created by the private sector, more attention must be paid to entrepreneurs that help create dynamic and responsible enterprises that often generate positive externalities for society and the environment through investments in scalable innovations and a commitment to local embeddedness. As such, they help lift people out of poverty through new and relatively well-paid jobs and enable local economies to become more sustainable through global value chain integration. Transitioning to Decent Work and Economic Growth explores the prospects for SDG 8 in the Global South as well as the Global North. It especially considers the positive role the private sector may play as an enabler of human rights, creator of decent work and engine for inclusive development in different contexts. Further, it examines how the institutional environment can facilitate economic change, which may lead to social empowerment and enhanced economic opportunities. A key question the volume explores, is how—in an entrepreneurial context—innovation and scientific knowledge contribute to the creation of scalable innovation that help to de-couple economic growth from the use of natural resources. Transitioning to Decent Work and Economic Growth is part of MDPI's new Open Access book series Transitioning to Sustainability. With this series, MDPI pursues environmentally and socially relevant research which contributes to efforts toward a sustainable world. Transitioning to Sustainability aims to add to the conversation about regional and global sustainable development according to the 17 SDGs. Set to be published in 2020/2021, the book series is intended to reach beyond disciplinary, even academic boundaries. For use of the SDG logos and design, please see the according Guidelines for the use of the SDG logo, color wheel, and 17 icons.Transitioning to Sustainability SeriesDevelopment economics & emerging economiesbicsscsustainable economyeconomic growthworkdecent workDevelopment economics & emerging economiesAerni Philipp963250Stavridou Marianthe1817058Schluep Isabelle1817059Gertschen Alex1817060Elo Maria1460430Juntunen Arla1817061Sozzi Dino1817062Ferrini Lia1817063Vivo Romano De1817064Capri Ettore81225MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910557323903321Transitioning to Decent Work and Economic Growth4374428UNINA
