This book provides a fresh, updated and science-based perspective on the current status and prospects of the diverse array of topics related to the potato, and was written by distinguished scientists with hands-on global experience in research aspects related to potato. The potato is the third most important global food crop in terms of consumption. Being the only vegetatively propagated species among the world’s main five staple crops creates both issues and opportunities for the potato: on the one hand, this constrains the speed of its geographic expansion and its options for international commercialization and distribution when compared with commodity crops such as maize, wheat or rice. On the other, it provides an effective insulation against speculation and unforeseen spikes in commodity prices, since the potato does not represent a good traded on global markets. These two factors highlight the underappreciated and underrated role of the potato as a dependable nutrition security crop, one that can mitigate turmoil in world food supply and demand and political instability in some developing countries. Increasingly, the global role of the potato has expanded from a profitable crop in developing countries to a crop providing income and nutrition security in developing ones. This book will appeal to academics and students of crop sciences, but also policy makers and other stakeholders involved in the potato and its contribution to humankind’s food security. .AgricultureNutrition Plant breedingFood—BiotechnologyAgricultural economicsAgriculturehttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L11006Nutritionhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/C18000Plant Breeding/Biotechnologyhttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/L24060Food Sciencehttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/C15001Agricultural Economicshttps://scigraph.springernature.com/ontologies/product-market-codes/W47000Life sciencesAgricultureNutrition Plant breedingFood—BiotechnologyAgricultural economicsAgriculture.Nutrition .Plant breeding.Food—Biotechnology.Agricultural economics.Agriculture.Nutrition.Plant Breeding/Biotechnology.Food Science.Agricultural Economics.630Campos Hugoedt990126Campos Hugoedthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtOrtiz Oscaredthttp://id.loc.gov/vocabulary/relators/edtMiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910367257303321The Potato Crop3362516UNINA02286nam 2200469 450 991079467620332120230630002216.090-04-45975-810.1163/9789004459755(CKB)4100000011921112(OCoLC)1228030333(nllekb)BRILL9789004459755(MiAaPQ)EBC6606100(Au-PeEL)EBL6606100(OCoLC)1243028512(EXLCZ)99410000001192111220220114d2021 uy 0engurun| uuuuatxtrdacontentcrdamediardacarrierCapitalist dictatorship a study of its social systems, dimensions, forms and indicators /by Milan ZafirovskiLeiden, The Netherlands ;Boston :Koninklijke Brill NV,[2021]©20211 online resourceStudies in critical social sciences ;Volume 18790-04-45920-0 Includes bibliographical references and index.Milan Zafirovski identifies and investigates the resurgence of capitalist dictatorship in contemporary society, especially after 2016. This book introduces the concept of capitalist dictatorship to the academic audience for the first time. It examines the capitalist dictatorship as a total social system composed of specific systems such as a coercive economy, repressive polity, illiberal civil society and irrational culture in contrast to liberal democracy. It also investigates multiple dimensions, forms and indicators of capitalist dictatorship, and calculates degrees of capitalist dictatorship for contemporary Western and comparable societies such as OECD countries. Capitalist dictatorship, including autocracy, Zafirovski argues, is the gravest threat to contemporary democratic society post-2016.Studies in critical social sciences ;Volume 187.CapitalismPolitical aspectsCapitalismPolitical aspects.330.122Zafirovski Milan1958-504813MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910794676203321Capitalist dictatorship3864948UNINA
