This book presents major contributions that analyze the interplay of personal biographies and political history, ideologies and academic scholarship between the First World War and the Third Reich. Peter Raulwing and Thomas Gertzen study the political activism of Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Bissing, professor of Egyptology at the University of Munich and art collector, during and after the First World War. Thomas Schneider's contribution is the first comprehensive treatment of the biographies of German and Austrian Egyptologists in the time of National Socialism and their careers after 1945, with remarks on the relationship between Egyptological scholarship and Nazi ideology. Lindsay Ambridge analyzes the scholarship of James Henry Breasted, the patron of North American Egyptology, in the context of racial ideologies of the early 20th century. A concluding chapter by Peter Raulwing, added after the death of Manfred Mayrhofer, patron of the study of Indo-Aryans in the Ancient Near East, reflects on the 20th century ideological and academic interest in the question of Indo-Aryans in the Ancient Near East. In the introductory chapter, Edmund Meltzer places these studies and their significance in the wider context of Egyptological and historiographical scholarship. \'...this book makes a significant contribution to exploring a dark chapter in Egyptology's history as a discipline and an important step in understanding the effect that period had on the academic community.\' Edward Mushett Cole, University of BirminghamEgyptologyHistory20th centuryEgyptologyPhilosophyHistory20th centuryEgyptologistsGermanyBiographyEgyptologyGermanyHistory20th centuryEgyptologyPolitical aspectsGermanyHistory20th centuryNational socialism and scholarshipGermanyIntellectual life20th centuryGermanyPolitics and government1918-1933GermanyPolitics and government1933-1945Electronic books.EgyptologyHistoryEgyptologyPhilosophyHistoryEgyptologistsEgyptologyHistoryEgyptologyPolitical aspectsHistoryNational socialism and scholarship.932.0072932.007202243Schneider Thomas1964-1027777Raulwing Peter1027778MiAaPQMiAaPQMiAaPQBOOK9910462381503321Egyptology from the First World War to the Third Reich2443429UNINA01955nam0 2200421 i 450 CFI003541720231121125429.0IT87-6578 19960109d1986 ||||0itac50 baitalatitz01i xxxe z01nItinerari ereticalipatari e catari tra Rimini e VeronaGabriele ZanellaRomaIstituto storico italiano per il Medio Evo1986128 p.26 cmStudi storiciIstituto storico italiano per il Medio Evo153Con appendici di documenti.001CFI00017522001 Studi storiciIstituto storico italiano per il Medio Evo15371202Istituto storico italiano per il Medio EvoCFIV017158EresieVeronaSec. 13.FIRRMLC408473IEresieEmilia RomagnaSec. 13.FIRRMLC408474IEresieItalia settentrionaleSec. 13.FIRRMLC099287IPatariniSec. 13.FIRRMLC099288ICatariSec. 13.FIRRMLC099290I273.60945421Zanella, GabrieleCFIV011333070154085ITIT-0119960109IT-RM0290 IT-RM0313 IT-FR0084 IT-RM0151 IT-FR0017 BIBLIOTECA ANGELICARM0290 BIBLIOTECA CASANATENSERM0313 Biblioteca Del Monumento Nazionale Di MontecassinoFR0084 Biblioteca Istituto Storico Italiano Medio Evo - IRM0151 Biblioteca umanistica Giorgio ApreaFR0017 NCFI0035417Biblioteca umanistica Giorgio Aprea 52MAG 3 COLL P 50 52MAG0000160855 VMB RS A 2020042720200427 06 07 25 41 52Itinerari ereticali872867UNICAS01632nas 2200493-a 450 991089575620332120240413022431.0(CKB)110978977287330(CONSER)sn-94017884-(DE-599)ZDB2715141-4(EXLCZ)9911097897728733019940404a19949999 --- aengtxtrdacontentcrdamediacrrdacarrierCalifornia schools quarterly magazine of the California School Boards AssociationWest Sacramento, CA The Association1994-1 online resourceTitle from cover.Subtitle varies.Print version: California schools : 1081-8936 (DLC)sn 94017884 (OCoLC)30085527 School boardsCaliforniaPeriodicalsPublic schoolsCaliforniaAdministrationPeriodicalsPublic schoolsAdministrationfast(OCoLC)fst01082945School boardsfast(OCoLC)fst01107008SchulverwaltunggndZeitschriftgndCaliforniafastKaliforniengndPeriodicals.fastSchool boardsPublic schoolsAdministrationPublic schoolsAdministration.School boards.Schulverwaltung.Zeitschrift.379California School Boards Association.JOURNAL9910895756203321exl_impl conversionCalifornia schools4235131UNINA
