This report, supported by the Washington Office on Latin America and Open Society Foundations, examines the intersection of gender, drug policies, and incarceration in Colombia. It highlights the disproportionate impact of punitive drug laws on women, particularly those serving as low-ranking members of the drug trade due to economic necessity. The publication critiques the failure of the 'war on drugs' model and advocates for more humane, gender-sensitive policies to mitigate the negative effects on women, many of whom are heads of households and mothers. The report aims to inform policymakers and human rights advocates about the need for reform and the importance of considering women's roles and challenges within drug trafficking networks. |
