"The Monastic Order in England" di Dom David Knowles fu pubblicato originariamente nel 1940 e fu rapidamente riconosciuto come un classico accademico e un capolavoro di letteratura storica. Copre il periodo che va dal 940 circa, quando San Dunstano inaugurò la riforma monastica diventando abate di Glastonbury, fino all'inizio del XIII secolo.
