Les sciences cognitives se sont emparées du débat inné-acquis au sujet du langage. La théorie du linguiste américain Noam Chomsky repose sur la thèse selon laquelle la faculté de langage est déterminée par la biologie humaine. Cette thèse a suscité de vifs débats depuis 60 ans. L’ouvrage examine ces débats, en passant en revue les données empiriques pertinentes, notamment sur l’acquisition du langage chez l’enfant, les sourds-muets, les troubles du langage et, dans une perspective évolutionniste, la communication chez les grands singes. Il propose ainsi un examen critique de la théorie de Chomsky et développe à partir de là une réflexion philosophique autour de la notion d’innéité. |
