Sommario/riassunto

Migraine is multifaceted and complex, both in its clinical presentation and in its causes and treatments. This complexity can give the illusion that it is a disease without specific characteristics or causes, without effective treatments, and without a real impact on life. Add to this the fact that it is not visible on clinical examination or on a brain scan, and you will understand why migraine is considered by some to be a "non-disease" and why misinformation or "fake news" about it abounds, but also why migraine sufferers often remain stigmatized in society. In this book, I attempt to separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to the information circulating about migraine, its causes, and its treatments, based on my 40 years of clinical and research experience in migraine and on a list of 21 questions that migraine sufferers commonly ask. I hope to show that migraine is not an inevitable fate, but a neurological disease where the progress of recent decades has paved the way for increasingly effective treatments. I illustrate my points with scientific data, sometimes complex. I believe that patients are capable of understanding this information if it is presented clearly and that they have every interest in knowing it in order to form a personal opinion based on a full understanding of the facts. This book will therefore also be useful for healthcare professionals who care for migraine sufferers. Finally, I hope to convince non-migraine sufferers from all walks of life that it is a debilitating disease that can undermine a life, a relationship, or a career, and that deserves the attention of loved ones, employers, academics, and political decision-makers.
