• Sommario/riassunto: Die Integration der PDS war lange Zeit eine der großen Streitfragen der deutschen Politik. Von vielen als kommunistisch und extremistisch geschmäht, gelang es der Partei in relativ kurzer Zeit, ihre Isolation aufzubrechen und sich schließlich als gesamtdeutsche Kraft im linken politischen Spektrum zu etablieren. Der Weg von der ostdeutschen "Staatspartei" zur systemoppositionellen "Nachfolgepartei" und schließlich zur gesamtdeutschen "Linkspartei" war weder einfach noch geradlinig. Wie verlief diese Entwicklung und wie veränderte sich der öffentliche Diskurs um die Partei? Die "PDS-Frage" war dabei mehr als ein politisches Streitthema. Vielmehr spiegelten sich in ihr Grundfragen der zeitgenössischen Auseinandersetzung: um die Verfasstheit des vereinten Deutschlands, um das Erbe des 20. • Sommario/riassunto: The need for establishing a formal limit between the concentration of potentially toxic inorganic compounds in groundwater due to natural processes or to anthropogenic pollution has prompted researchers to develop methods to derive this boundary and define the "Natural Background Level" (NBL). NBLs can be used as screening levels to define the good chemical status of groundwater bodies, as well as to fix the remediation target in polluted sites.The book "Natural Background Levels in Groundwater" brings together a set of case studies across Europe and worldwide where the assessments and identification of this boundary are performed with different methodologies. It provides an overview of the approaches and protocols applied and tested in different states for NBL assessment, ranging from well-known methods, such as component separation or cumulative probability plot methods, to new computer-aided protocols. The main objective of this book is to bring together and discuss different methodological approaches and tools to improve the assessment of groundwater NBLs. The overview, discussion and comparison of different approaches and case histories for NBL calculation can be useful for scientists, water managers and practitioners.

• Sommario/riassunto: The combination of functional polymers with inorganic nanostructured compounds has become a major area of research and technological development owing to the remarkable properties and multifunctionalities deriving from their nano and hybrid structures. In this context, polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSSs) have increasing importance and a dominant position with respect to the reinforcement of polymeric materials. Although POSSs were first described in 1946 by Scott, these materials, however, have not immediately been successful if we consider that, starting from 1946 and up to 1995, we find in the literature 85 manuscripts regarding POSSs; which means that less than two papers per year were published over 50 years. Since 1995, we observe an exponential growth of scientific manuscripts concerning POSSs. It is changing from an annual average of 20 manuscripts for the period 1995-2000 to an annual average of about 400 manuscripts, with an increase of 2800%. The introduction of POSSs inorganic nanostructures into polymers gives rise to polymer nanostructured materials (PNMs) with interesting mechanical and physical properties, thus representing a radical alternative to the traditional filled polymers or polymer compositions.
