• Sommario/riassunto: Das globale Klima und die aktuelle Klimaveränderung sind in der heutigen Gesellschaft ein omnipräsentes mediales Phänomen, das jedoch, wenn es in der longue durée betrachtet wird, vor allem an konkreten historischen Ereignissen festgemacht wird. Dazu zählen extreme Winter, Hagel und Dürren zu Missernten, die in Hunger, Seuchen, Krieg und Revolutionen resultieren und sich in der Historiographie niederschlagen. Der vorliegende Sammelband widmet sich hingegen der Frage, welche ideengeschichtlichen und kulturellen Konsequenzen langanhaltende Klimaveränderungen auf Literatur, Kultur und Wissenschaft haben, indem das Extremereignis ‚Kältewinter‘ aus interdisziplinärer Perspektive untersucht wird. Dabei stellen die Beitragenden folgende Fragen: Wie gestaltete sich der Austausch von meteorologischem Wissen im Untersuchungszeitraum? Welche Medien wurden dafür verwendet? Ist mit dem Zeitalter der europäischen Aufklärung ein Wandel im Denken über die Ereignisse der Kältewinter zu konstatieren? Wie gestaltet sich die Visualisierung der Erkenntnisse über die außergewöhnlichen Wetterlagen? Und nicht zuletzt: Welche politischen und gesellschaftlichen Auswirkungen sind in der Folge zu beobachten? Jahrhundert.; The eighteenth century can be seen as a turning point in the description and interpretation of extreme events – and not just due to the Lisbon earthquake.
