This book constitutes the proceedings of the 5th International Information Retrieval Facility Conference, IRFC 2012, held in Vienna, Austria, July 2-3, 2012. The 12 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 17 high-quality submissions. IRF conferences wish to bring young researchers into contact with industry at an early stage. This fifth conference aimed to tackle four complementary research areas: information retrieval, machine translations for search solutions, and interactive information access. |

Als Berlin 1871 zur Hauptstadt des Deutschen Reiches aufstieg, vermehrten sich die Aufgaben. Wie die notwendigen Infrastrukturprojekte finanziert wurden und welchen Anteil die Kommune - oft in Auseinandersetzungen mit der Staatsverwaltung - daran trug, ist Inhalt des Bandes. Damit liegt eine Metropolengeschichte vor - entwickelte sich doch Berlin nach 1871 zu einer der attraktivsten Metropolen Europas und zur viertgrößten Stadt der Welt. |
In the past, Berlin flourished as a capital city, not so much due to the subsidies provided by Prussia and the empire but because these regimes understood and utilized it as a capital city. It became an imperial city and then a legendary European metropolis in a rather indirect way. This volume examines the relationship between capital city and state, as well as the independent role that Berlin had as a flourishing center of business and finance. |
