Note generali

The first Latin edition was a plagiarism of the "Epitome" and "De humani corporis fabrica" of Andreas Vesalius, with plates copied from Vesalius by Geminius. This English translation by Nicholas Udall omits the "Epitome", and is in part derived from T. Vicary's "Anatomie" 1548, a lost earlier edition of STC 24713. For a discussion of the sources of this translation Cf. Sanford V. Larkey, "The Vesalian Compendium of Geminus and Nicholas Udall s Translation: Their Relation to Vesalius, Caius, Vicary, and De Mondeville". The Library, s.4 XIII (1933), p.367-94.

"In the dedication [to the 1559 reissue STC 11718] Geminus says that Richard Eden and others assisted in this edition."--Larkey. The Library, s.4 XIII (1933), p.387.

"Regarding Geminus and the engravings ... see Hind I. 39-46"--STC 11714.
