Sommario/riassunto

The p-adic Simpson correspondence, recently initiated by Gerd Faltings, aims at describing all p-adic representations of the fundamental group of a proper smooth variety over a p-adic field in terms of linear algebra-namely Higgs bundles. This book undertakes a systematic development of the theory following two new approaches, one by Ahmed Abbes and Michel Gros, the other by Takeshi Tsuji. The authors mainly focus on generalized representations of the fundamental group that are p-adically close to the trivial representation. The first approach relies on a new family of period rings

built from the torsor of deformations of the variety over a universal p-adic thickening defined by J. M. Fontaine. The second approach introduces a crystalline-type topos and replaces the notion of Higgs bundles with that of Higgs isocrystals. The authors show the compatibility of the two constructions and the compatibility of the correspondence with the natural cohomologies. The last part of the volume contains results of wider interest in p-adic Hodge theory. The reader will find a concise introduction to Faltings' theory of almost étale extensions and a chapter devoted to the Faltings topos. Though this topos is the general framework for Faltings' approach in p-adic Hodge theory, it remains relatively unexplored. The authors present a new approach based on a generalization of P. Deligne's covanishing topos.

A pleasant discourse betweene conscience and plain-dealing [[electronic resource] ] : Discovering their trauels, and hard fortunes since these times began; and what hard shifts they have bin put too, for want of entertainment. With their resolution once more to try their fortunes; and to discover in their travels, all that are enemies to conscience and plain-dealing: and to give notice to all honest men, in all cities, and towns, to beware of their hipocriticall double dealing, in their tradings. Then listen all people now, for we are fully bent to tel knavs their own, & give honest men content. Written by C.H. a well-wisher to conscience & plain-dealing; and to ask those that will entertaine them. But for him that wishes ill to them, or mee pray pass a long, A.K.I.C.U.B

Sommario/riassunto

Though it's given little attention--and even less serious attention--by the mainstream press, metal music has for decades been a major creative and cultural force around the world. This book brings together a group of contributors from Europe, North America, and the Caribbean to make a case for metal's place not merely on the periphery of our culture, but at its very heart. Contributors attend not merely to the music, but also to the accompanying culture, and they offer intriguing insights into the rise of metal in places where it's traditionally been little known, like the Middle East and North Africa. The result is a global portrait of metal that asserts its importance and its ongoing contribution to culture.
