|
Dans l’imaginaire collectif, le criminologue est un être étrange qui pourchasse des tueurs en série. Bien que cette représentation ne soit pas totalement erronée, elle ne constitue pas l’essence du travail du criminologue. En fait, ce professionnel peut être impliqué dans chacune des étapes du système de justice, à savoir : 1) le support aux enquêtes ; 2) le traitement des criminels violents ; 3) l’évaluation des risques de récidive ; 4) le suivi de criminels lors de leur réinsertion sociale ; 5) le support aux victimes d’actes criminels. L’auteur met en lumière les activités d’un criminologue impliqué dans la protection du public, mais respectant également les droits des criminels. |
