Andreas Büttner bietet einen konzisen Überblick über Einheit und Vielfalt der mittelalterlichen Monarchie als der grundlegenden Herrschaftsform im damaligen Europa. Ideal und Praxis königlicher Herrschaft, Mit- und Gegenspieler, Rituale und Verwaltung werden ebenso behandelt wie Stellvertretung und Rezeption.
