Comment l’équipe éducative d’un centre de jour fait-elle pour remplir sa mission de scolarisation auprès d’une dizaine d’adolescents, au parcours souvent jalonné d’échecs, de ruptures ou d’exclusions ? Pourquoi les règles énoncées ne sont-elles pas toujours suivies ? Et, que comprendre quand les éducateurs revendiquent, lors de la résolution de situations difficiles, que « justice soit rendue à nos émotions » ?  L’ajustement dans tous ses états, issu d’une recherche en analyse de l’activité en partenariat avec les professionnels, modélise et visibilise les savoir-faire déployés par cette équipe éducative. L’ouvrage



montre les ajustements des professionnels aux situations pour tirer un maximum parti des forces en présence, et réussir à maintenir les jeunes dans l’institution. Cette modélisation explicite comment les règles et les émotions guident (ou non) l’activité. Elle fait voir les ajustements opérés qui affectent la manière dont les professionnels investissent et vivent leurs activités, en même temps qu’ils constituent des occasions de devenir pour les jeunes accueillis. Cette recherche montre ainsi comment des professionnels répondent, dans leurs activités concrètes, à la double-injonction de distance et d’engagement constitutive du champ de l’éducation spécialisée.
