Note generali

By Johann Amos Comenius.

A version of "Janua linguarum reserata", originally published in Latin and Czech (not to be confused with the earlier "Janua linguarum" of William Bathe and others).

With an additional title page, "The gate of tongues vnlocked and opened, or else A seminarie or seed-plot of all tongues and sciences" with imprint "London, printed by George Miller for the authour 1631".

Latin, English, and French in parallel columns.

With two final contents leaves; the last leaf is blank.

One of three states printed in this year with different combinations of names in the imprints.

A pirated edition, according to Robert Fitzgerald Young, "Comenius in England", p. 61.

Variant: A2v has a dedication signed: Ioh. Anchor, I.A. Comenius, Sam. Hartlib.

Reproduction of the original in the Henry E. Huntington Library and Art Gallery.
