These books were the Jus populi of Sir James Stewart ... and the True nonconformist of McWard"--A life of Gilbert Burnet, Bishop of Salisbury / by T.E.S. Clarke, H.C. Foxcroft. The "Dialogues" claimed on the t.p. to have provoked these writings was a work by Burnet published anonymously in 1669 under title: A modest and free conference betwixt a conformist and a nonconformist about the present distempers of Scotland. Cf. Clarke, p. 74, [522]. |

The "Observations on the first and second of the canons" bears no statement of authorship, but is attributed to Burnet. Cf. Wing; Halkett & Laing. |
In two parts. Part 2, Observations on the first and second of the canons, commonly ascribed to the Holy Apostles, has a separate dated title page and separate pagination; register is continuous. |
