These books were the Jus populi of Sir James Stewart ... and the True nonconformist of McWard"--A life of Gilbert Burnet, Bishop of Salisbury / by T.E.S. Clarke, H.C. Foxcroft. The "Dialogues" claimed on the t.p. to have provoked these writings was a work by Burnet published anonymously in 1669 under title: A modest and free conference betwixt a conformist and a nonconformist about the present distempers of Scotland. Cf. Clarke, p. 74, [522].
