Im März 1624 ließ sich Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665) in Rom nieder. Für seine Auftraggeber schuf er eine Reihe von Landschaftsbildern, deren Gehalt er rätselhaft verschlüsselt hat. An den Freund Paul de Chantelou schreibt er: »Lesen Sie die Handlung und das Bild, um zu erkennen, ob alles dem Sujet angemessen ist.«Ralph Häfner stellt Poussins rätselhafte »Landschaft mit Numa Pompilius und der Nymphe Egeria« (heute im Musée Condé, Chantilly) in den Kontext der intellektuellen Debatten in Rom um 1630. In seiner formalen Konzeption entfaltet das Gemälde mannigfaltige Aspekte der Bedeutung, die sich einer genaueren Allegorese erschließen. »Handlung« und »Bild«-Komposition sind im Sinne pythagoreischer Denkfiguren stimmig zu lesen. |
