Les historiens ont beaucoup travaillé et écrit sur la criminalité et sur les délinquants, mais peu sur les victimes. Cet ouvrage cherche à combler cette lacune. Fruit d'un colloque tenu à Dijon en octobre 1999, il rassemble une quarantaine de communications réparties en cinq thèmes majeurs : le regard de la société, identités et recours, mythes, typologie en fonction des instances créatrices de victimes, typologie en fonction des préjudices subis. Tous ces problèmes sont abordés de manière diachronique, de l'Antiquité à nos jours, ce qui permet de déboucher sur des comparaisons fécondes. S'intéresser aux victimes, c'est être attentif à l'histoire de la souffrance, morale et physique. C'est aussi aborder sous un angle inhabituel les multiples manifestations du crime. C'est entrer au cœur des pratiques sociales et individuelles, et, par conséquent, porter un regard neuf sur l'évolution des comportements et des mentalités à travers les siècles. |
