Sommario/riassunto

The essays in this volume examine continuities and ruptures in the legal system of the "soldier-emperor." What were the interactions between crisis and the law? Does political instability explain changes in the development of the law? Is there evidence of specifically regional legal pathways? Are there unique features in private law? Drawing upon legal sources, the authors construct a multifaceted picture of an epoch characterized by upheavals.
