Sommario/riassunto |
|
Joseph Lanner (1801-1843) is one of the most important dance music composers of the Biedermeier era, he is considered the father of the "Viennese waltz", thus creating a tradition on which the Strauss sons in particular could build. Although Lanner has created well over three hundred compositions, there is still no scientific catalog of works that lists his numerous dances and arrangements and prepares them for the user with the help of source-critical research. years of research, this gap was closed with the present work. The first part provides a detailed introduction to the special characteristics of the Lanner compositions. After a brief biographical overview, important subject-specific explanations on the topics " In addition to the indispensable source references to the available materials including library signatures of the Vienna music collections, all historical editions - from the autograph to the various arrangements - are given with the date and title, as well as dates of the origin and the first performances. References (including the most important Viennese newspapers) conclude the individual work listings. Each work is also accessible via incipits to the musician, who is looking for certain themes and melodies. For all dances and arrangements, the relevant grade incipits are given at the beginning. A precise list of the instruments used allows conductors and dance music orchestras to get a quick overview of the requirements of a performance. In addition to an alphabetical list of all works, the appendix provides further practical information, including a list of all dedicatees as well as a short list of works by Joseph Lanner's son, August. All explanations for use (including abbreviations, etc.) required for the reader are available, so that the present catalog raisonné meets all the criteria required by musicology. |
