Diese Studie beschreibt die Entwicklung des französischen Modussystems vom Spätlateinischen bis zum français classique im Rahmen eines kohärenten modalsemantischen Ansatzes. Die Entwicklungen werden mit denen in anderen romanischen Sprachen kontrastiert, wobei dem italienischen Modussystem aufgrund seiner bemerkenswerten Kontinuität die Funktion einer Kontrastfolie zukommt. Ausdifferenzierung der Modussysteme in den romanischen Sprachen deutlich. Sie erscheinen insbesondere als der relevante ,Raum' für Sprachwandelprozesse, deren grundlegende Prinzipien in der Untersuchung systematisch herausgearbeitet werden. In diesem Zusammenhang treten auch die Beziehungen zwischen dem Konjunktiv und indikativischen Verbalkategorien hervor, deren modales Potential in der historischen Entwicklung der romanischen Sprachen in unterschiedlichem Grade ausgebaut wurde. Ganz neue und bislang nicht gewürdigte Korpusdaten vermitteln zudem höchst interessante Einblicke in Übergangs- und Restrukturierungsprozesse im Rahmen typischer Kontexte sprachlichen Wandels. Damit liefert die Arbeit wichtige Impulse für eine Theorie des Sprachwandels. |
