|
Metadata is a key aspect of our evolving infrastructure for information management, social computing, and scientific collaboration. DC-2008 will focus on metadata challenges, solutions, and innovation in initiatives and activities underlying semantic and social applications. |

Metadata is part of the fabric of social computing, which includes the use of wikis, blogs, and tagging for collaboration and participation. Metadata also underlies the development of semantic applications, and the Semantic Web — the representation and integration of multimedia knowledge structures on the basis of semantic models. These two trends flow together in applications such as Wikipedia, where authors collectively create structured information that can be extracted and used to enhance access to and use of information sources. Recent discussion has focused on how existing bibliographic standards can be expressed as Semantic Web vocabularies to facilitate the integration of library and cultural heritage data with other types of data. Harnessing the efforts of content providers and end-users to link, tag, edit, and describe their information in interoperable ways (”participatory metadata”) is a key step towards providing knowledge environments that are scalable, self-correcting, and evolvable. DC-2008 will explore conceptual and practical issues in the development and deployment of semantic and social applications to meet the needs of specific communities of practice. |

À l’inverse de la pratique courante consistant à diviser en compartiments la production de Schönberg, l’objectif des trois « études » présentées ici est de faire ressortir l’unité et la continuité de sa pensée et de sa poétique musicales, quelles que soient les périodes auxquelles appartiennent les œuvres. Il y a chez Schönberg une façon de concevoir l’interaction des dimensions verticale (harmonique) et horizontale (mélodique) au sein du tissu contrapuntique, et une façon de faire découler l’unité de la composition (ce qu’il désigne par le terme de Zusammenhang) de la mise en place d’un dense réseau de relations motiviques, qui sont dans une large mesure indépendantes du matériau et des techniques d’écriture utilisées. Cela vaut notamment pour la « méthode de composition avec douze sons » fondée sur la confection préalable d’une « série » : jusque dans la dernière période, cette méthode reste une façon de procéder parmi d’autres, et il est frappant de voir que la technique sérielle qui y est mise au point sous une forme particulièrement élaborée est susceptible de mutations diverses quand le compositeur est amené à travailler non plus avec l’échelle des douze notes, mais avec un matériau plus restreint et hiérarchisé, hérité du passé. La première étude est consacrée au monodrame La Main heureuse (1911-1913). La deuxième est centrée sur les Quatre pièces pour chœur mixte op. 27 (1925). La troisième est consacrée à un ensemble d’œuvres pour chœur a cappella allant des Trois Volkslieder de 1928 à Dreimal tausend Jahre op. 50a de 1949, en passant par les Six pièces pour chœur d’hommes op. 35 (1929-1930). L’ouvrage se termine par une réflexion sur les enjeux liés au judaïsme chez Schönberg. |
