Manche bezeichnen die Bildwissenschaft als neue Superdisziplin. Andere als puren Überfluss. Aber niemand kann sagen, für was die eine Bildwissenschaft steht – aus einem simplen Grund: Es gibt sie nicht. Das Etikett Bildwissenschaft birgt unterschiedlichste Ziele und Methoden. Wer sie vereinheitlicht, verkennt ihre Möglichkeiten. Erst die Arbeit an ihren Differenzen profiliert Stärken und markiert Schwächen. Daher setzt das Buch vier Protagonisten der Bildwissenschaft in einen Widerstreit: Hans Belting, Gottfried Boehm, Horst Bredekamp und Hubert Burda. Der Kontrast ihrer Ansätze zeigt, dass das Entscheidende der Bildwissenschaften in ihrem Unterscheiden liegt. |
