Sommario/riassunto

This accessibly-written textbook aims to give a helping hand to both students and teachers in intercultural environments. Revolving around the significance of culture in communication, and the nuances arising

from similarities and differences between cultures, each unit is built on an authentic selection of textual fragments. These core texts are supported with pedagogical elements including Save some time for words, Save some time for grammar, Intercultural and Academic corner, Linguistic snippet and IDEA features, the goal of which is to address different language skills and point to various linguistic and culture-related phenomena. Intended to polish up English proficiency B2 (towards C1) level, and increase cultural competence, the English for International Study: Hallmark approach will be suitable for students and teachers on English courses that make up part of international foundation year programmes and preparatory courses around the globe, as well as the opening language courses in English-taught study programmes. Marijana Prodanović is an associate professor in English linguistics at Singidunum University, Belgrade, Serbia, and Kauno Kolegija, Kaunas, Lithuania. She is an international communicator, teacher, and teacher trainer, with extensive experience in cross-cultural pragmatics, as well as emerging ELT trends, seen through the eyes of communication. Begoña Crespo is a full professor at the Faculty of Philology, University of A Coruña, Spain. She is an academic specializing in discourse analysis and corpus linguistics who is also very passionate about EMI and internalisation practices in higher education. Jonathan Pendlebury has worked as an EFL teacher for over 25 years, teaching students at Belgrade University’s Department of English. Aside from a keen interest in methodology, Jonathan is passionate about the role culture plays in contextualising and inspiring language learning.
