|
Nietzsche a pu écrire que la philosophie était affaire de santé plutôt que de vérité, désignant à la pensée la tâche de saisir ce qu’il en est de la vie. Toute perspective sur la vie ne peut elle-même être qu’une perspective vitale. « Le normal et le pathologique » de Canguilhem parvient à une conclusion voisine. La vérité des énoncés biologiques et médicaux ne prend sens que rapportée aux expériences vécues de l’homme sain et de l’homme malade. De fait, le livre de Canguilhem propose, à partir de modélisations épistémologiques toujours précisées, une philosophie de la vie. Après Nietzsche et Bergson, tout autant avec eux que contre eux, Canguilhem cherche à ressaisir la vie non seulement par le maintien des normes mais plus encore par leur renouvellement. Tandis que la santé correspond à une tolérance maximale, la maladie limite les capacités des vivants au point de susciter cet art de la correction qu’est la médecine. Une pensée de la médecine peut alors être entrevue en tant que productrice d’un nouveau normal et activité de résistance à la pathologie. Ceci suppose toutefois de comprendre l’acte médical comme un acte éthique alors même que la formulation d’une éthique médicale induit des effets normalisateurs dénoncés par Canguilhem. Restituer au livre de Canguilhem toute son actualité philosophique, tel est l’enjeu de ce recueil. |
