• Sommario/riassunto: Depuis la grande enquête sur la mobilité quotidienne des Belges (MOBEL), réalisée en 1999 par le Groupe de recherche sur les transports (GRT) de Namur, on sait que, dans l'ensemble des pratiques de mobilité, les déplacements pour raisons professionnelles ne sont plus dominants aujourd'hui, tant au niveau de leur nombre que des kilomètres parcourus. Les déplacements de loisirs, ceux pour les courses, ou ceux consacrés aux sociabilités familiales et amicales occupent dorénavant une place prépondérante, même si les déplacements professionnels continuent à être structurants pour bon nombre de personnes et qu'ils se manifestent de manière particulièrement visible aux heures de pointe. Ce constat, ajouté à ; celui relatif à la diversification des formes d'emploi et des temps de travail (travail à temps partiel, horaires flexibles, travail à domicile...), a des conséquences concrètes directement observables, particulièrement à Bruxelles : allongement des heures de pointe, multiplication des déplacements en journée notamment sur le temps de midi, usage intensif des moyens de transport le samedi, augmentation de près de 50% du nombre de voyageurs transportés par la STIB au cours des cinq dernières années, etc. C'est dans ce contexte que la recherche présentée dans ce livre prend toute sa pertinence : elle vise à appréhender les multiples vécus du temps et de l'espace, et les usages des modes de transport qui en découlent avec, en toile de fond, la question de la synchronisation des temporalités urbaines. Cette recherche, financée par la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale dans le cadre du programme Prospective Research for Brussels, se focalise sur la mobilité à Bruxelles, qu'elle soit le fait des Bruxellois (qui prennent à leur charge plus de 70 % des déplacements dans la Région) ou des non-Bruxellois, mais ses enseignements peuvent interroger d'autres contextes et ses apports méthodologiques être transposés à d'autres études.
