In der vorliegenden Studie, die sich als Beitrag zur historischen Sprachkontakt- und Mehrsprachigkeitsforschung versteht, wird der Sprachwechsel der Hugenotten vom Französischen zum Deutschen in verschiedenen brandenburgischen Stadt- und Landkolonien rekonstruiert. Die an archivalischen Quellen vorgenommene Untersuchung zeigt, dass dieser Prozess je nach lokaler, sozialer und sprachlicher Umgebung sehr verschieden verlief und unterschiedliche



Dynamiken entfaltete. Die sprachliche Akkulturation der frankophonen Migranten und ihrer nachfolgenden Generationen wird aus verschiedenen Perspektiven beleuchtet. Differenziert nach Mündlichkeit und Schriftlichkeit, Domänen und Textsorten, Schrift- und Schreibkompetenz, Schreibusus und Schriftsprachwandel sowie monolingualem und bilingualem Sprachunterricht wird in Longitudinalstudien der vom 17. bis 19. Jahrhundert dauernde Übergang zum Deutschen empirisch untersucht. Es zeigt sich, dass Sprachwechsel nicht das einfache Auswechseln der einen Sprache durch eine andere bedeutet, sondern ein komplexer und asynchroner Abbau, Umbau und Aufbau sprachlicher Muster in einem permanent mehrsprachigen Kontext ist.
